Mitered Pipe Bend

A Mitered bend, often referred to as a Miter Elbow or Bend, is created by cutting pipe ends at an angle and then connecting them. This method is utilized to mitigate reflections in piping systems. In a 4-piece Miter bend, there are two end gores and two middle gores, which are the individual miter pieces. Mitered bends help reduce capacitance, restoring the line to its original characteristic impedance. The calculator provided below aids in determining the dimensions of the miter bend. Miter elbows are manufactured by fabricating several pipe cut pieces, which involve multiple weld joints. Therefore, it is crucial for design engineers to carefully plan the design, as an excessive number of weld joints can weaken the components, while too few weld joints can result in higher pressure drops.
