Installation involves fillet welding on both sides to securely attach the flange to the pipe. A Slip-on Flange connects via two fillet welds, one inside and one outside the flange cavity. The flange’s bore size is larger than the pipe’s outside diameter, allowing it to slide inside for welding. Known as “Hubbed Flanges,” they are compact and available in materials like Alloy Steel, Carbon Steel, Stainless Steel, and more.
Emcor Engineering manufactures slip-on flanges using various methods like forging, steel cutting, and casting. Among these, forging offers the highest quality but comes at a higher price. When purchasing slip-on flanges, consider the specific application, typically for non-corrosive, moderate-pressure environments. These flanges are essentially rings that slide onto the pipe end, extending beyond it for welding. The outer diameter of slip-on flanges is also welded on the backside. They are cost-effective and easier to align than weld neck flanges and can serve as lap joint flanges when paired with Type B or Type C stub ends.
